“Today is my day of freedom. I have been fighting for this day for 23 years. It still feels like I am on furlough. It will take some time for this feeling to sink in,” he said.

He added, “I have served my sentence. Nothing is bigger than not being labelled a terrorist.”

The Munna Bhai actor said that he is missing his father Sunil Dutt on this day.

As his wife Manyata and kids Shahraan and Iqra stood beside him, Sanjay added how his family has been a constant source of support for him. “Manyata picks me up whenever I fall. Everybody says that I have suffered over the last few years, but she has suffered much more than me. I pray nobody goes through what she has undergone.”

When asked about his earnings of Rs. 440 during his jail term, he humbly said, “I have given my kamai to my wife.”

Sanjay also said how he has been waiting for this day. “I did not sleep last night. I have not even eaten anything the last 4 days. I was anxious to meet my family,” he said.
